First half-year vegetable cultivation experiment
Last month we successfully completed our first half-year vegetable cultivation experiment using our prototype LED lamps. In this experiment we focused on pre-cultivation of cucumber, tomatoes, paprikas (bell pepper) as well as cultivation of several lettuce species. Following are our results, i.e. the period from sowing until ready for planting/harvest:
Cucumber (Naomi), 4-weeks.
Tomatoes (Geysir), 6-weeks.
Caps (Viper and Ferrari), 8-weeks, same time as last year for (Ferrari).
Lettuce (f.ex. Lactuca sativa) from several manufacturers, 6-7 weeks to harvest. Appearance and taste was very good.
In this experiment three different types of LED lamps with different ratio of red and blue light were used. No carbon dioxide was given during the cultivation period. This cultivation experiment showed that appropriate combination of blue and red LED light gave the best results. In all cases in this experiment, the energy savings of 49% compared to HPS lamps was realized.
