Horticulture (flowers and vegetable)
We have successfully tested our energy efficient and water cooled long lasting LED (Light Emitting Diode) prototype lamps specially developed for cultivation of flowers and vegetable for the horticulture sector. We now have successful cultivation results for number of vegetable species as well as different types of roses.
LED lamps
LEDs do not radiate heat towards the plants as HPS lamps do. However, there is a heat (junction temperature) generated within the LEDs which must be removed so performance and longivity of the LEDs can be secured. As today´s LEDs are becoming more and more powerful (1W, 3W, 5W and higher wattage exist), ordinary methods like fan cooling or cooling using a heat sink are insufficient for greenhouse environment.
To solve this problem above, Vistvæn Orka Inc has developed a unique water cooling method for cooling the LEDs in the lamps. This new cooling method addresses two important issues:
- Fyrstly, the LEDs in the lamps will last longer, or up to 100.000 hours.
- Secondly, the cooling system is in fact a closed circuit with continous cooling water flow. If for any reason the closed circuit breaks, or if the water temperature increases above certain threshold due to a failure, a sensor circuit sends an alarm to the security system, which in turn switches the LED lamps off. This way it is easy to prevent damage due to failures or theft.
The LED lamps can easily fit any sizes of greenhouses. By utilizing Flow Network Modeling (see the picture below) in the cooling system design, we can optimize the performance and longivity of each the LED lamps in the circuit.
Our greenhouse LED lamps have number of advantages over HPS lamps, f.ex. lower energy consumption, higher longivity, less maintainance, contain no toxic substances like mercury, no fire hazard and finally have a built-in theft protection in the cooling circuit.
